Pierce Transit Board Puts Transit Expansion on November Ballot

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

The Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners voted on July 13 to place a measure on the November 3 general election ballot that would maintain and expand local transit service through a change in the local sales tax. If approved, the measure would fund new bus routes, more frequent service, later evening and weekend service, and fare-free bus and paratransit for seniors, among other improvements.

Pierce Transit Board Chair Kristina Walker, who is also a Tacoma City Councilmember, said reliable transit creates opportunity for residents to get to work, school, and medical appointments. The proposed measure reflects years of community input and ridership data. The measure now moves to the Pierce County Auditor for official ballot placement.

Pierce Transit also announced free rides to cooling centers on July 14 and 15 due to high temperatures, and reopened its administration lobby after ADA access improvements.
