Pierce Transit will provide free bus rides to cooling centers and shelters from Aug. 4 through Aug. 7, according to a public notice. The service applies to all regular routes, Runner, and SHUTTLE paratransit for registered users.
The free rides are available for passengers who inform drivers they are traveling to or from a cooling center. Pierce County Human Services is coordinating the program, with shelters open in Tacoma, Lakewood, Puyallup, Parkland, and Gig Harbor. The offer follows high-temperature forecasts in the Puget Sound area.
Pierce Transit previously extended free rides through July 23 and offered similar service from July 19-21 for heat relief. The current program ends at the conclusion of service on Aug. 7.
