Tacoma Venues & Events reinvests revenue to support free community events The City of Tacoma’s Events and Recognitions Committee (CERC) has approved $90,000 in funding to support 26 organizations in producing public-benefiting community events. Awarded applicants will receive $2,500 to $5,000 to help cover direct costs, including traffic control, performers, marketing, and other essential expenses. To make this possible, Tacoma Venues & Events (TVE) sets aside a portion of revenue generated at the Tacoma Dome and the Greater Tacoma Convention Center each year to reinvest back into the community through its Special Events Funding program . CERC awards funding through a competitive, panel-reviewed process. Applications are measured on merit and community impact as well as how the event fosters access and belonging. “We are thrilled and honored to support these 26 organizations,” said CERC Chair Jacob Tice. “It’s incredibly important to our committee to help increase access to these wonderful community events. They help celebrate culture, strengthen connections, and create meaningful experiences for everyone in Tacoma. Through their events, this dynamic group of organizers is helping to shine a light on the world-class creativity and liveliness of our city, and the rich cultural tapestries that make up our neighborhoods. Volunteers Invited to Help Care for Tacoma’s Parks and Natural Areas on Green Tacoma Day, October 10 — Wed, 23 Sep 2026 18:55:35 +0000
On October 10, the City of Tacoma and the Green Tacoma Partnership will host Green Tacoma Day, a citywide volunteer effort focused on restoring and supporting Tacoma’s green spaces. Community members of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part in this annual day of service, which offers hands-on opportunities to improve local parks, neighborhoods, and natural areas. Volunteers will take part in activities such as planting native trees and shrubs, removing weeds, and picking up litter across seven sites where multiple events will be held. “Thank you to all the volunteers, organizations, and City staff that make this day possible every year,” said Tacoma Mayor Anders Ibsen. “Our green spaces are the biggest legacy we leave to the next generation, and we commend the amazing Tacomans who make that possible.” No prior experience is needed. The City of Tacoma’s Events and Recognitions Committee (CERC) is now accepting nominations for Tacoma community members to be recognized for their service at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration in January 2027. Individuals can be nominated for the Emerging Leader Award; groups, organizations, and individuals can be nominated for the Lifetime Service Award. Eligible honorees have demonstrated a meaningful contribution to serving the community through human rights efforts, commitment to education, or sharing of their skills. Nominees should embody the legacy of Dr. King’s teachings and actions, representing people of all backgrounds in the pursuit of hope, healing, and sustainable peace. Recent honorees include F.
