Tacoma-area drivers will face multiple road closures and detours starting late July through early August 2026 for highway maintenance and utility work, according to Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) public records.
WSDOT's schedule includes a northbound SR 522 lane closure from 8 p.m. Aug. 5 to 3 a.m. Aug. 6, I-90 off-ramp closures nightly July 31-Aug. 1, and a two-lane closure on I-90 between Eighth Avenue South and the floating bridge from 8 p.m. Aug. 4 to 3 a.m. Aug. 5. Additional closures include SR 526, US 2, and I-405.
The closures are scheduled for overnight or early morning hours to minimize traffic impact, with detours provided via signed routes. All work is expected to conclude by Aug. 10, 2026.
