Tacoma Seeks Audit Board Applicants, Launches Glass Art Pilot, Adjusts Parking Rates

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

Tacoma City Council is seeking applicants for a community member position on the Audit Advisory Board, which supports financial oversight of city operations. The board requires experience in government auditing and financial practices, with a focus on diversity in representation. Applications are open until the position is filled.

The city also launched a six-month pilot program where residents can drop off glass at the Tacoma Recycle Center to be turned into art by Hilltop Artists. The program runs through February 2027 and aims to create a closed-loop recycling system connecting waste reduction with youth education and local art.

Starting October 13, downtown on-street parking rates will increase from $1 to $1.50 per hour as part of a multiyear parking network update. The change addresses findings from a 2024 study showing up to 31% of parking spots were occupied for long periods.
